City of Melbourne Sustainable Mosaic Workshop

​This popular beginners' workshop allowed 10 people to immerse themselves in a one-day mosaic making session in the MakerSpace at the Kathleen Syme Centre in Carlton. We used 100% upcycled ceramic, tile and glass. Many substrates (bases) were also reclaimed or donated) It was so positive to see how easily people became engrossed in planning their pieces, finding materials and getting inspiration from books or their own sources.. I took the pieces they made home to grout them and returned them a week later. Some works didn't need grouting ( eg bird made of willow mosaic below) as all the pieces were placed closely together and the cement adhesive was used to fill the intestices (gaps)
